for what i'm doing now, is writting a "polished draft"  about my argument on a bill that is suppose to help me with to develope a sense on what issues i shouold argue about and how to go about doing it . my nexty step is that io still have to do other piece of writing that i don't really know yet but i'm sure that its going to take all the time i need . then i am to continue on working on my portfolio for my class  grade. hopefully i will show that being in this class was not a waste.

So far in class i have used papers that were written by my classmate in order to conduct a worshop. this i swhen my group and i have all of each others papers/essays and then provide feedback. the way we give feedback is thaty we give constructive critism and write minor commments. this would help us in the long run to build up a well written paper,  that we can use for our final paper. this would also help us to receieve a better or well deserved grade.

Also in class we have read many bills that we are to make arguments for. this for those to understand where we come from as far as opinions on the topic. we don't have to try to convince people to be on our side for the argument, but we do have to at least build one. if the argument has already been made into a law then to make an argument agianst it would be useless.

now i plan to make alot of revising and editing on all the papers that i hav edone for this semester. the in the end will determine what is going to be my grade for the whol class. hopefully i will do good.

I have finished my writing on evaluating sources. This consists of analyzing a bill and finding out how well does the source to the bill work. I am also getting ready to work shop with my classmates or team/group of the class to see what happens next. All of these projects that I am doing count but also build up to this large Electronic portfolio. Hope my portfolio will be up to par and I will receive a good grade.

So far in my Eng. class I have been look for ways to conduct an appropriate argument essay. This essay is to be displayed to the pubic or better yet in front of my classmates. My argument essay is first done by a process of using group members in order to discuss the topic. Then I am to give ideas or feedback on the topic. So far my topic is on class scheduling being changed for next year. My group members have come with ways to bring out the main points in order to start building upon this argument.

Later on, I am to draw back on some of those ideas that I have with my group and come up with independent work of my own. I have to be able to make an abstract piece of my own writing which, consist of 300 words that at least draw out the main points of the essay.

PERSONAL HEALTH; An Oldie Vies for Nutrient of the Decade

By JANE E. BRODY

Published: February 19, 2008

Vitamin D has been well known to help those to build up strong bones. It has always been good news for decades. Vitamin D, can be found in sun shine, in milk, and in a few selected types of foods.

Researches have found out that because of lacking in vitamin D, is has cause some growth problems.  Out of lack of Vitamin D, comes a malformation such as rickets and ailments.

Experts believe it would be a good idea for people to raise up the amount of Vitamin D. This may require having more sunlight, foods, and or supplements. It is hard for federal committees increase intake for more nutrients, because of being unsure on whether it could be more toxic.

Later facts will be given to the public but, it is up to those who decide how much nutrients they need to take in on a daily basis.

Throughout history it has been found that sunlight was the main source of vitamin D. Vitamin D has formed in skin exposure to ultraviolet rays. This might be bad due to , the cases of sunburns this has caused. Other info may need to be drawn out to people on how much take depending on: where a person lives, skin color, time of year and age.

Dark skin may absorb less the UV rays. During the winter people receive less vitamin D and make there chances less on building more hormones the body needs. Babies may also feed less off of breast milk due to lack of Vitamin D.

Foods that have been fortified, consume less vitamin D. the best thing that may have more vitamin D is breakfast cereals. Thus it is found in prenatal vitamins.

My comment: it might be true that not enough people take in the right amount of vitamin d. when it comes to things like sun light, how do we know how much to take in.

The measurement for vitamin D in sun light will have to be base on living conditions, skin and age.

Hopefully it will help if people are reminded what foods or drinks have a safe a regular amount of vitamin D in them.

I know that I don’t receive  the right amount of vitamin D because, I don’t stay out in the sun too long or drink any more milk.

Maybe in the future, my vitamin intake will increase over the years.

Skin Cancer Is Up; Tanning Industry a Target

Ting-Li Wang/The New York Times

Since 2003, 19 states have passed laws restricting access to tanning salons.

 By PAUL VITELLO

Published: August 14, 2006

Tanning salons are the big issue for today. It seems that they may be the possible suspect of cancer in young people. To make sure that tanning salons are so dangerous, any person under the age of eighteen will not be allowed in the salon.

Tanning beds have been considered a health danger by world health organizations and dermatologists. It has been considered to also be as dangerous as cigarettes.

The causing for tanning beds to be so dangerous is radiation form ultraviolet. This may very well be the possible or one of the possible causes to cancer. This very problem has had debatable evidence in the past. Thus, researchers believe that tanning leads to tumor as well as cancer.

Though there might not be any solid evidence to support the idea of tanning beds causing cancer, dermatologist still have strong feeling about the use of it.

My response: other need to take care of there bodies and how many times they go to a tanning salon. With many things leading up to the idea of tanning causing cancer, one can not be to sure about really wanting to ignore this “case”.

If people don’t watch how much they tan their bodies then it is possible that they are already doomed to tumors or cancer.

In East Harlem, Sharing Ways to Eat Better

By FLORENCE FABRICANT

Published: March 5, 2008

Last year, as part of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg’s and Scott M. Stringer, started a project that was called Go Green East Harlem which, was a big accomplishment for them to come out with the new “Go Green East Harlem Cookbook,” this cook book was edited by Mr. Stringer. Mr. Jones books cost, $17.95. Hlaf of these books are in english and in spanish. Each of these havles give the same 68 recipes. Contributions were made by restaurants, other foods stores and other local organizations. What is included is a neighborhood map within the recipe books.

Ryan Thatcher

Maritza Owens, the founder of Harvest Home Farmers’ Market.

Vegetable-based recipes, are have little rules that apply for “green food” which includes examples of things like the summer squash. This is contributed by Maritza Owens, who is the founder for Harvest home Farmers Market. The book gives the idea that it is great to eat food that is cooked from scratch than to eat fast food or “take out foods”. This will help us to control obesity, diabetes, and other health issues.

These new recipes may include whether they are free of dairy and sugar and whether they are whole grain or vegetarian.

The recipe include other foods like garbanzo soup, ceviche, linguine with clam sauce and  lemon chicken.

My comments this will help other people to eat with and live with a healthier life style. With many recipes in  this book it makes it more easy for people to do so. Thus it gives more variety to what other healthy foods are out there.

IN BRIEF; Fire Safety

By ELSA BRENNER

Published: February 13, 2000

Gov. George E. Pataki has used special forces to conduct safety procedures, in order to help protect colleges and their dormitories from a dangerous fire hazard. In doing so there has been a law form in order to see that every college goes through fire safety testing.

''While New York campuses are reminded of what could possibly happen to a college that is not well prepared for fire safety. A college by the name of Seton Hall would be a past result of that.

On Jan. 19, a fire broke out leaving many students hurt in the line of a real fire drill. One to many injuries have occurred. It has also been known that in this emergency that, there were no sprinkling systems. Nor does it help with the fact, that Seton Hall has had many false alarm fire drill. This is why this new law would come into effect.

Governor Pataki Is so serious about this issue that he has a few team of experts to back him up. People like: Sandy Treadwell, Robert L. King, Mathew Goldstein, and James Ross

These forces will make sure that this new law follows through. All schools/colleges in state will be examined to make sure that they don’t follow the same fate as Seton Hall.

My response: due to this new law it can be now known that colleges will be examined for safety procedures. This will help better the school if there just so happen to be many mistakes in the school’s fire alarms system.

Each school will be tested as a result to make that everything goes as planned. With serious people taking handling this issue delicately, there will be no time for errors or any overlooked systems.

Lacking Cure, a New Tack on a Muscle Disease

Mark Lyons for The New York Times

Anthony Hoel had corrective procedures and extensive rehabilitation at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

By REED ABELSON

Published: February 20, 2008

There has been a disease that has cause many children to become handicap. This disease has been called muscular dystrophy. This disease has caused young males to become so disabled that they don’t get a chance to live in there twenties. this disease has been know to be incurable. Though there have been many break throughs with, many other medications; however, researchers are still looking for a cure.

Researchers have also tried to find medication to help bring the effects of the disease to a halt. To help aid them in this research, other celebrities have donated to help pitch in for the treaments. For example; actress mariska Hargitay help to raise $63.8 million dollars.

Doctors and other specialist are doing there best to keep these patients alive. All the procedures to keep them well are still in progress.

My comment (pianist): hopefully with all of the research, there will be success out of progress in order to come up with the cure to help fight off this horrible disease. This muscle eating madness has to soon come to an end.

It is good that celebrities also take interest in this cause to help fight off muscular dystrophy and give little young ones a chance to live.

It is unfortunate that anyone has to suffer this ailment. No deserves to live this way!!!!!

New Jersey Requires H.I.V. Test in Pregnancy

By JEREMY W. PETERS

Published: December 27, 2007

Sum:

In the New Jersey, there has been a law that has been taken into effect in today’s world. The law is about women taking a new H.I.V test for pregnant women. The law states that pregnant women are required to take the test for their health and the health of their babies.

This is something, that can help detected the disease and treat it as a early prevention.

The test will not only be performed on the mother but including the new-born as well. Plus the baby will not have to be delivered through the mothers “c-section”

This will help to keep the babies’ health and give the mothers the knowledge they need to protect themselves.

My comment: Hopefully the mother will take this situation seriously. It’s no joke that babies have to suffer over the ignorance of the mothers.

It is sad that the procedure might not be all that “easy going”; but with the possibility of protection of one’s self, that wouldn’t really matter.

With so many results of people being H.I.V positive, mothers should take this into some serious consideration for their health and the health of there babies.
